Nebraska Pick 4 will be launching on September 21, giving fans of the Pick game series another option to try their luck with! The Nebraska Lottery already hosts Pick 3 which works very similarly, so many players will already be familiar with the rules. Nevertheless, let's check out how this new game is going to work…
Official Nebraska Lottery sources have been very clear on the different rules and mechanics! Draws will be held daily using a digital random number generator rather than a set of physical ball machines. The winning numbers outputted can be anything from 0000 to 9999.
When completing their playslips, players need to pick four digits from 0 to 9, and a play type. The play type will determine how their numbers need to match the winning numbers in order to win a prize. There are lots of play types to choose from, but you can only pick one per ticket.
You can choose to match all four winning numbers in drawn-order, in any order, or choose just two adjacent numbers to match in drawn-order (such as the front two winning numbers).
There is no Pick 4 jackpot - each play type has its own top prize, and there are no runner-up prizes for getting some matches but not all.
The Pick games in other states feature a range of wager amounts, allowing players to risk more in exchange for bigger payouts. In Nebraska Pick 4 however, tickets will always cost $1 per play.
The prizes for NE Pick 4 look to be much better than the prizes for other states' versions. For example, the top prize in Nebraska is $6,000 - for the equivalent $1 play in Florida, New Jersey, and more, the top prize would only be $5,000.
Pick 4 games in other states usually have some variety of add-on you can pay to add to your play, but Nebraska Pick 4 doesn't appear to have one - which is OK really, those things always cost extra. The most common by far is the Pick Fireball/Wild Ball, which acts as a bit like a second-chance number. There's also the EZ Match/Instant Match add-on, which lets players win prizes before the draw takes place, and the less common but more creative Sum It Up add-on, which gives players an additional avenue for winning prizes. Maybe the Nebraska Lottery plans to add one of these extras at a later date?
The Nebraska Lottery offers a wide variety of games, including multi-state games like Powerball and Mega Millions, as well as local games like MyDaY, Pick3, and Pick 5*.
You might want to switch to playing Pick 3 for a bit in the run-up to the Pick 4 launch. The rules are very similar, with the only difference being that only three numbers are drawn, giving you better winning odds! What's more, players buying Pick 3 tickets between September 14 -20 have the chance to receive a free Pick 4 coupon, printed along with their Pick 3 ticket, to redeem once the game launches on September 21. Neat!
*Just be aware, Nebraska Pick 5 isn't what we call a "Pick Game", despite the name! It's a pretty standard (but still good fun) jackpot game, where players "pick five" numbers from 1 to 40.
