Quad 7 Is No Joke as Texans Win Big on April Fool’s Day

Wednesday April 8th 2026

The Texas Lottery’s Pick 4 game, known as Daily 4, paid out $7.9 million in prize money in a single draw on April 1st, making it a day to remember for the 3,353 winning players.

While April Fool’s Day is a date to be wary of pranks, the result of the Night draw produced plenty of smiles as the numbers 7, 7, 7 and 7 were selected.

It is known as a ‘Quad’ when four identical numbers are drawn, and playing a Quad is a popular strategy for ticket holders who like the Straight option - where you have to match the numbers in exact order.

There were 3,155 who matched the combination with a Straight play in this draw, earning each winner at least $2,500 (depending on the amount wagered). For comparison, there was not a single Straight winner in the previous night’s draw when the numbers were 0051.

The Fireball number in the Night draw on April 1st was 5, helping to create additional opportunities to win prizes.

“Drawing four of the same number is a rare and exciting event in our Daily 4 game, but seeing lucky sevens come up on April Fool’s Day made it even more memorable,” said Courtney Arbour, executive director of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which oversees the Texas Lottery. “We always enjoy seeing our players win, and these quadruple 7s certainly delivered a lucky night for many Texans.”

Daily 4 has only produced 18 sets of the same number since the game started in 2007, and this was the first instance of a Quad 7.

Drawings take place four times a day from Monday through Saturday - Morning, Day, Evening and Night. Go to the dedicated Texas Pick 4 site to learn more about a game which gives you lots of options for how to play.
